Andrés Burbano (Colombia, 1972) is a transdisciplinary artist and media technology historian. He currently serves as an Associate Professor in the Arts and Humanities School at the Open University of Catalunya (Barcelona, Spain), as a Visiting Lecturer at Donau-Universität (Krems, Austria), and has developed an important part of his academic career at Universidad de los Andes (Bogotá, Colombia). Burbano holds a Ph.D. in Media Arts and Technology from the University of California, Santa Barbara. His work has been exhibited at prestigious venues including ISEA and Ars Electronica and is part of the permanent collections at ZKM and MEIAC. His research focuses on: Media history and archaeology in Latin America and the Global South; Historical and cultural impact of computational technologies; and 3D modeling of archaeological sites. Burbano has delivered keynote speeches at various academic events, including MAH. He was appointed as the ACM SIGGRAPH 2024 Chair and is the author of the book "Different Engines: Media Technologies from Latin America" (Routledge, 2023). Additionally, he serves as co-editor of the journal Artnodes.
